Chris-Tel Construction was recently awarded the Sunshine State Safety Award from USF SafetyFlorida for Segment 2 of the Estero Boulevard Improvements project on Fort Myers Beach, recognizing Chris-Tel Construction for the safe environment it provides to employees, subcontractors, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic. The multi-segment infrastructure project being done for Lee County DOT, encompasses almost six miles along Estero Boulevard which is the main thoroughfare onto and off of Fort Myers Beach. The scope of work includes improvements to the sanitary sewer and force main, construction of new nine-foot sidewalks, construction and installation of a new center lane drainage system, landscaping improvements, trolley stops, and roadway reconstruction. Segment 2 of the project runs one mile from Lovers Lane to Strandview Avenue.
The project management team, subcontractors, and vendors work in conjunction with seven other contractors who are providing various services for the Town of Fort Myers Beach during the construction. The project has a myriad of challenges including seasonal traffic, spring break vacations, numerous events and parades, hurricane/rainy season as well as business and resident influence.
Partnering with USF Safety Florida proved instrumental in achieving this prestigious award. Our consultant, David Ashman, completed a full-service visit which included a comprehensive audit of the existing safety and health programs and practices in place, the training provided to and completed by the project management team as well as an onsite observation and walkthrough of the entire length of the project identifying any specific hazards apparent on the job site. In addition to an onsite evaluation, USF SafetyFlorida determines the employee and management involvement, support and emphasis on safety as well as the overall commitment to safety standards in the daily activities of the entire firm.
Initiated in 1972 by the Safety Council of Florida and then in 2000 by USF SafetyFlorida, the Sunshine State Safety Award commends Florida businesses and employees in all industries who proactively and routinely engage in job safety and is governed by OSHA Standards and Regulations. The award is given to those businesses that implement sound safety initiatives to better project the employees on the job.
