Phase one of the Southward Village transformation plan has begun. The first phase of the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers’ plan to transform the Edison Avenue/Dunbar community involved preparing a vacant site located at 3611-3621 Cleveland Avenue (US-41) in Fort Myers for the future development. The site was previously home to a former automotive dealership that had since been abandoned.

Before demolishing the existing structures, Chris-Tel Construction partnered with Braxton College to help provide hands-on training for students pursuing a career in fire rescue. The class, led by Richard Gonzalez, VP of Admissions and Compliance at the College, safely performed various training exercises such as wall knockdowns, roof penetration, and forcible entry techniques.

Once complete, the project will include a 92-unit low-income housing development consisting of multiple freestanding, three-story walk-up garden apartment buildings; a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.

Chris-Tel Construction was glad to be able to help provide a “real world” experience for our future firefighters/EMS professionals.
