This Isn’t Your Grandma’s Swimming Pool

Published May 30, 2016

Residential projects are not the bread and butter of Chris-Tel Construction. However when your client wants a two-story, outdoor entertainment area, to include a suspended lap pool, you make it work! Our firm has was chosen to provide construction management services for a very unique project on Gasparilla Island in Boca Grande, Florida. It began with the hopes of a simple pool addition to the existing house. Being that there is water on all four sides of the property, the owner wanted the two-lane lap pool to be suspended, or elevated, in order to easily access it from his residence. Not only does this make it aesthetically pleasing and matches his current living space elevation, it offers a way to take advantage of the views afforded by his property. It also created a unique opportunity to provide space underneath the suspended entertainment area for an archery and pistol range.

As the title indicates, this isn’t your grandma’s swimming pool. The heated Myrtha Olympic style lap pool is constructed from steel and fiberglass and includes a Colorado timing system and starting blocks. Did I mention it is elevated? Surrounding the pool is an outdoor entertainment area that includes a kitchen, grilling area, dining area, bar and fire pit, spa, fitness area and weight room.

To make this project even more exciting, the location is on an island. The bridge to get to and from is currently under construction which made getting the concrete there a bit challenging. At times there were 9-10 trucks a day delivering concrete to the jobsite due to the weight limitations for the bridge and the fact that concrete in transit will only last so long before it begins to set or is unusable. All that aside, the project is well on track to be completed by November 2016 in time for the owner and his family to enjoy the space just in time for the holidays.
